WHAT IS 2ND MOTIFX
Chinese Characters hold a deep symbolism in Chinese Culture. Their written form has represented abstract concepts, emotions, and ideas since ancient history, and through centuries of evolution, they remain miraculously part of our everyday life.
2nd Motifx - Embracing the Beauty of Chinese Culture is organised by Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) of the Vocational Training Council (VTC). The project invites designers to explore the mystical side of the written characters, focusing on RADICAL GRASS and its connection to the surreal world. While acknowledging the cultural and philosophical diversities in Eastern and Western traditions, we embrace the whimsy and fantasy of nature. Creating our theme: Culture to Nature – A Surreal Garden of Botanical Patterns.
VISION & MISSION
In light of the rapidly evolving global landscape, the integration of novel cultural heritage represents a pivotal force driving contemporary social and economic advancement. The launch of "Motifx" is intended to address these societal and economic needs. It is hoped that the initiative will facilitate greater engagement and understanding of traditional Chinese culture among the younger generation through innovative approaches.
"Motifx" represents not only a contemporary reinterpretation of historical motifs but also a cultural revival. The initiative encourages younger designers to explore and create, allowing them to integrate Chinese elements into their artistic endeavours. This integration allows for the fusion of tradition with modernity, thereby forming a unique cultural expression. Such practices serve to enhance the diversity of local design, while also enriching Hong Kong's cultural identity. They facilitate the showcasing of the city's distinct cultural characteristics on the international stage.
Furthermore, Motifx serves as a platform for fostering creative exchange and collaboration, cultivating the talents of a new generation of designers, and ensuring that the efforts of young people are duly acknowledged. It aims to establish broader markets, both locally and abroad, positioning the city as a source of artistic innovation and inspiration. This initiative exemplifies not only respect for traditional culture but also a commitment to the future.
